The Forge: Rare Materials Farming Guide — Where to Find Dragonite, Void Steel & More
Raw materials are the foundation of The Forge economy. The weapons everyone wants are only as good as the materials they're built from. If you want to craft Dragonite Swords and Void Edges consistently, you need efficient farming routes and boss strategies. This guide covers all of it.
Material Tier Overview
| Material | Rarity | Primary Source | Crafts Into |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron | Common | Surface mines | Iron weapons, basic armor |
| Steel | Uncommon | Deep mines (L5+) | Steel weapons, mid armor |
| Obsidian | Rare | Volcanic zone | Obsidian Blades, Shields |
| Dragonite | Very Rare | Dragon boss drops | Dragonite Swords, Greatsword |
| Void Steel | Extremely Rare | Void boss drops | Void Edge |
| Celestial Ore | Event Only | Event bosses / drops | Celestial Hammer |
The economic value escalates sharply past Obsidian. A single Dragonite ingot is worth more than a full stack of Obsidian in most trades.
Iron & Steel Farming (Early Game)
Not worth optimizing heavily — these are abundant and the goal is to progress past them quickly.
- Surface mines: densely packed Iron nodes, no enemies
- Deep mines (unlock at Level 5): Steel nodes appear every 3–4 rooms
- Tip: Bring a pickaxe enchanted with Fortune I to increase Steel node yield by ~30%
Obsidian Farming (Mid Game)
Obsidian is your first truly tradeable material. Here's how to farm it efficiently:
The Volcanic Zone Route
- Enter the Volcanic Zone from the south entrance (safer than the north)
- Follow the lava river path east — nodes spawn along both banks
- Each node yields 2–5 Obsidian per harvest
- Nodes respawn every 8 minutes
- Full circuit of the zone takes ~6 minutes — time it to arrive at each node as it respawns
Obsidian Farming Tips
- The volcanic zone has Ember Golems as enemies — bring a Steel Sword minimum
- Solo farming is viable here; groups aren't necessary
- 20–30 Obsidian per hour is a reasonable solo farming rate
- At 5 Obsidian per Blade and 3 Blades per trade-up, farming 15 gets you a meaningful trade item
Dragonite Farming (Late Game)
Dragonite only drops from the Dragon Boss — there are no mineable Dragonite nodes. This makes it entirely boss-dependent.
Dragon Boss Location
The Dragon Boss spawns in the Dragon Lair, accessed via the eastern mountain passage (requires Level 15+).
Dragon Boss Stats
- Health: Very High
- Attack: High damage, knockback
- Weakness: Fire damage (Fire Aspect enchants deal +50% vs Dragon)
- Enrage threshold: Enrages at 30% HP — damage output doubles
Drop Rates
| Drop | Chance |
|---|---|
| Dragonite Ingot x1 | 60% |
| Dragonite Ingot x3 | 25% |
| Dragonite Ingot x5 | 10% |
| Dragon Scale (crafting mat) | 40% |
| Rare Enchant Stone | 20% |
| Epic Enchant Stone | 5% |
Dragon Boss Strategy
Solo (advanced): Bring a Fire Aspect III Obsidian Blade or better. Dodge roll during the enrage phase — standing still gets you one-shot. Expected kill time: 4–6 minutes.
Group (recommended for beginners): 3-player groups kill in ~2 minutes. Designate one player as the tank (Steel Armor+), two as DPS. Loot is shared — communicate before the fight about split.
Dragonite Farming Rate
- Solo: ~1–2 Dragonite per run, ~3 runs per hour = 3–6 Dragonite/hour
- Group (3): ~1.5 Dragonite per player per run, ~5 runs per hour = 7–8 Dragonite/hour per player
Group farming is significantly more efficient — find farming partners in the community Discord.
Void Steel Farming (Endgame)
Void Steel is the rarest non-event material. It drops from the Void Colossus, the hardest boss in the game.
Void Colossus Location
The Void Realm, unlocked after defeating the Dragon Boss 3 times. The entrance is in the northwestern corner of the map.
Void Colossus Stats
- Health: Extremely High
- Attack: Void damage (bypasses standard armor)
- Weakness: None (reduce damage with Celestial Ore armor if available)
- Special mechanic: Spawns Void Shards at 50% HP — these must be destroyed or they heal the boss
Drop Rates
| Drop | Chance |
|---|---|
| Void Steel Ingot x1 | 50% |
| Void Steel Ingot x2 | 20% |
| Void Steel Ingot x5 | 5% |
| Legendary Enchant Stone | 10% |
| Void Dust (crafting mat) | 60% |
Void Colossus Strategy
This boss requires a minimum of 3 players with Dragonite weapons or better.
- Phase 1 (100–50% HP): Standard DPS. Stay spread out to avoid cleave damage.
- Phase 2 (50–0% HP, Void Shards active): Assign 1 player to destroy Void Shards immediately as they spawn. The other 2 continue DPS. If 3+ shards are active simultaneously, the boss heals faster than you can damage it.
- Expected kill time (3 players, Dragonite gear): 8–12 minutes
Void Steel Farming Rate
- 3-player group: ~0.5–1 Void Steel per player per run, ~2 runs per hour = 1–2 Void Steel/hour
- Void Edge requires 8 Void Steel — expect 4–8 hours of dedicated farming per Void Edge crafted
Celestial Ore (Event Only)
Celestial Ore does not spawn in the base game. It is exclusively available during seasonal events through:
- Event boss drops (highest yield)
- Event objective completions
- Limited-time event node spawns in special zones
Critical advice: During any active event, prioritize Celestial Ore farming over everything else. Once the event ends, Celestial Ore supply is permanently capped and values rise over time.
Expected event farming rate: 5–15 Celestial Ore per active event session, depending on event mechanics.
Material Trading vs. Crafting Decision Tree
When to craft:
- You have enough materials for a full weapon (don't half-craft)
- You have Enchantment Stones ready to maximize the crafted weapon's value
- You want a specific weapon for personal use
When to trade raw:
- You have partial stacks (e.g. 3 Dragonite, need 5 for a sword)
- Current crafted weapon market is oversupplied
- You need a specific different material quickly
Golden rule: 5 Dragonite Ingots = 1 Dragonite Sword in fair trades. Use this benchmark to evaluate raw vs. crafted trade offers.
Farming Summary
| Material | Method | Est. Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Obsidian | Volcanic zone rotation | 20–30/hour solo |
| Dragonite | Dragon Boss runs | 3–8/hour (solo vs. group) |
| Void Steel | Void Colossus runs | 1–2/hour (group only) |
| Celestial Ore | Event farming | Event-dependent |
